Dave Jeanson P.Chem

After graduating from The University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, Dave Jeanson began his career in drilling fluids.  Over the past 18 years while working at various companies his experience has included; drilling fluid field service, product development as both a research chemist and R&D manager, extensive drilling fluids programming, the training of new drilling fluid technicians, lecturing at The University of Calgary and SAIT, author of technical papers and has both a Canadian and U.S. patent.  At Matrix Dave's responsibilities include; technical sales, drilling fluids programming, product development and operations.

Steve Peck CHT

After graduating from SAIT eleven years ago as a Chemical Technologist, Steve entered the oil and gas industry.  His experience includes programming, operations, laboratory management and technical sales.  Steve has extensive experience in western Canada and offshore Newfoundland.   At Matrix Steve's responsibilities include; technical sales, drilling fluids programming, product development, customer mud schools and operations. 

Brian Dick

Brian began his drilling fluids career in 1980 with a major mud company.  He was a drilling fluids technician primarily in the foothills of western Canada and the Beaufort Sea.  After moving to the office in 1987, he progressed from drilling fluids programmer to operations manager and then finally to division manager.  Brian left this company in 1995 to manage a smaller independent mud company and in 1996 co-founded and managed a successful independent mud company which sold in 2003.  Brian remained in a management position under the new ownership until September 2008 and after this he joined Matrix Drilling Fluids.  His responsibilities at Matrix include technical sales, product and system development and operations support.

Paul Schaller

Paul began his career in the drilling fluids business in 1979 after completing petroleum technology at NAIT. He worked for a major drilling fluids company in the field, focused primarily in the foothills region of Alberta. After gaining valuable field experience Paul moved into technical sales with the same company and eventually was given the opportunity to manage their operations in the Middle East.

In 1998, Paul returned to western Canada and accepted a sales position with an independent drilling fluids provider and remained there until joining Matrix Drilling Fluids in 2011. At Matrix Paul's responsibilities include; sales, marketing, product development and operations support.

Brent Warren Ph.D

Brent started in the oilfield in 1982 and has spent time with both drilling fluid service companies and major operators. His expertise is varied in terms of technical skills, geographical locations and well types. Technically, Brent is well versed in formation impairment, wellbore stability, hydraulics, drilling fluid research and fit-for-purpose system development. He has been involved in wells in the Western Canadian basin, high arctic, offshore East Coast Canada, Mexico, various locations in South America, the USA and India. His expertise is proven in deep foothill wells, SAGD operations, unconventional gas plays (CBM, shale gas, hydrates) and sour environments.

Brent holds 4 patents and has written and presented papers for a variety of industry groups, including SPE, AADE, CADE/CAODC, AAPG, Intertech (India) and Journal of Petroleum Technology. His paper on filtration studies is included in the well-known SPE Reprint Series (No. 44 on drilling fluids). 

Responsibilities at Matrix include technical sales, presentations to clients, developing new markets and fluid programming/recaps.

Sean Phelan CMA

In 1988, after receiving his CMA designation, Sean started his career in the oilfield service sector with a major U.S. service provider in their Drilling Fluids Division. In 1996 Sean left to start his own oilfield consulting business, working for a couple of different oilfield service providers. One of these companies was acquired by a U.S. oilfield service company in 1998 and Sean assumed a Senior Management role with them for the next 6 years.  Sean's primary function is corporate governance and management.  Sean is also active in sales, assisting with area studies and end of well recap analysis.
